Europe’s biggest street party is back on Sunday 26th August as London welcomes its arms to the Notting Hill Carnival once again.
This annual event attracts millions of visitors from across the globe to celebrate ‘Caribbean style’ with enormous sound systems, extravagant floats, traditional steel bands and multitudes of stores lining the streets.
After the dancing has finished and the crowds eventually melt away, London’s cleansing professionals and caretakers are left with the mammoth cleaning operation of a million peoples mess.
Graffiti hits an all time high during the carnival as revellers try and leave a lasting impression on the area. Fortunately for local residents, Notting Hill’s cleaning teams are well prepared for graffiti attacks.
Jack Vadia of Notting Hill Housing Trust has seven units to look after in Notting Hill with about 600 residents covering various housing blocks and an NHS Clinic. He removes graffiti using Nomix Anti-Graffiti Kits which he thinks are “fantastic”.
“I use them on all kinds of things including metal and wooden doors, windows, bins, lights and walls. They are a great size and fit in my broom cupboard.
Graffiti was a big problem on my patch, but since we started cleaning it up as it occurred with the kits, it has virtually stopped. The carnival is our only real hotspot and the kits mean that’s hardly a problem at all!’
