Herbicide Application

 

When using herbicides, it is essential to ensure:

  • Preference is given to application equipment with reduced the risk of operator and bystander exposure
  • A risk assessment has been conducted, using information from the product label and Material Safety Data Sheet
  • Label specified Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used by the operator
  • Appropriate assessments and forms have been completed i.e. LERAP and Environment Agency form AqHerb01 for aquatic application
  • Application equipment is adequately serviced and maintained
  • Operators have the appropriate National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC) qualification
  • Herbicides are approved for the intended situation
  • Herbicides are used in accordance with the product label
  • Application equipment has been calibrated
  • Water pollution and damage to the environment is avoided, through reducing the risk of run-off and spray drift
  • Application targets problem weed areas, whilst avoiding non-target areas
  • Herbicide applications are carried out in accordance with the Code of Practice on using plant protection products.
